Living Leineperi Ironworks – Development Project 2026–2028
A development project has been launched at Leineperi Ironworks with the aim of strengthening the area's attractiveness, year-round use, and future operating conditions. Leineperi Ironworks is one of the best-preserved historic ironworks areas in Finland and a nationally significant cultural heritage environment where historic buildings, cultural heritage, entrepreneurship, events, and tourism come together.
The project examines the area's buildings, facilities, infrastructure, services, and operating environment, as well as their suitability for the needs of tourism, culture, events, and business activities. At the same time, opportunities for future development will be identified and a shared vision created for how Leineperi Ironworks can be developed in the years ahead.
The project aims to develop Leineperi Ironworks into an even more attractive centre for tourism, wellbeing, culture, and business activities, serving visitors throughout the year. The project will strengthen the area's vitality, create conditions for new services and business opportunities, and increase awareness of Leineperi among both domestic and international visitors.
Key objectives of the project
- diversify the area's services and business structure
- develop tourism and event activities towards year-round operation
- strengthen the area's identity, history and cultural heritage
- improve marketing and communications in a systematic manner
- create opportunities for new business initiatives and forms of cooperation
- explore how sustainable development solutions can be integrated into the area's operations and future development
The project is carried out in cooperation with local entrepreneurs, associations, landowners, authorities and other stakeholders. During the project, information will be gathered on the area's current status, utilisation rates, development needs and future opportunities to ensure that future development is based on comprehensive and well-founded knowledge.
Results
The project will produce a development plan and an action programme for Leineperi Ironworks, providing a foundation for the area's long-term development in the years ahead. These plans will identify concrete measures to enhance services, improve opportunities for use, strengthen tourism appeal and support year-round activities while respecting the values of the historic cultural environment.
All project outputs will be publicly available. Information on the project's progress, events, and opportunities for participation will be published on the Leineperi Ironworks website and through other communication channels throughout the project.
